White Oak Inset Kitchen
Lexington, South Carolina
I had so much fun working on this project with the client in their new lakeside home. For the kitchen we went for a minimalist look with no upper cabinets, challenging us to really maximize all of the storage in the lower cabinetry. We even had diagrams showing where every fork, dish cloth and pot lid would go in excruciating detail. I think the homeowner liked nerding out on the plans just as much as I did!
The cabinetry is inset face frame construction with shaker doors in a combination of painted white and gray washed quarter sawn White Oak. The ship lap hood matches the wall paneling, really tying the space together. I also made a U-shaped quarter sawn white oak countertop set underneath the quartz on the island, which was quite a challenge but turned out beautifully.
To top it all off, when the job was done the client asked if I could make her a farmhouse style table for her new dining space, and of course I said yes! The table and bench tops are made of reclaimed heart pine timbers from a local factory with the same gray wash as the cabinets. The legs are welded steel, making this quite the statement piece, and quite heavy as well.
