Custom Cabinetry in Nashville: The Story Behind Vine & Branch

This has been a long time coming. Late nights, long weekends, and plenty of sweat getting this company off the ground. And now, here we are—officially in business. It feels good to say that.

For those who don’t know me well, this isn’t my first rodeo in the custom cabinetry business. I started almost right out of high school, working in a millwork and cabinet shop in my hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. I have some of my best memories from those years—sawdust in my pockets, a grin on my face, and a sense that I had found the work I was meant to do. I held on to that feeling for a long time, working in nearly every facet of the cabinetry and woodworking industry and building a career out of it.

Building a Cabinet Business from the Ground Up

In 2013, I took a leap and started my own custom cabinet shop with just $50 to my name. I had spent several years designing kitchens and bathrooms for multi-family apartment projects—churning out production work, chasing deadlines, and knowing I wanted something more. So, I went out on my own.

At first, I was selling semi-custom cabinets out of my home office to anyone who would buy them, hustling my way into the local market. Like most entrepreneurs, I had plenty of talent and a few hard lessons ahead of me. But day by day, I figured it out. The business grew. Within a few years, we were six men strong, building high-end custom cabinets and working in the top tier of the market. Those were some of the most fulfilling years of my career.

But growth brings its own challenges. Scaling a business is about more than craftsmanship—it’s about leadership, systems, and managing the moving parts. I learned a lot in those years. Eventually, I made the tough decision to sell the business, ready to take a step back and see what was next.

A Fresh Start in Nashville & a Return to Custom Woodwork

In 2019, my family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. It felt like a fresh start, and I stepped away from cabinetry, taking a position as a draftsman at an architectural design firm. I enjoyed the work, but something kept pulling me back. Every project, every drawing, every conversation about woodwork reminded me of what I love most—creating something tangible, something lasting.

So here we are. Vine & Branch is the product of years of experience, lessons learned, and a passion for craftsmanship that never really left. This time, I’m doing things differently—more intentional, more refined, and with a renewed commitment to quality and service.
